Willliam Joseph Eberhardt, age 86, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on June 29, 2023. \nWilliam was born on September 5, 1936, to Jules and Elizabeth Eberhardt in Philadelphia. He is survived by his sister, Lee Ann Ciervo. \nWilliam graduated from North Catholic High School in Philadelphia in 1954. Shortly thereafter, William met the love of his life, Angela Marie Eberhardt. They were married on October 11, 1958, and oh what a love affair it was.\nWilliam and Angela shared a beautiful and full life together. They had four children and raised a close, loving family. William is survived by his children, Patti Sharpless (son-in-law, Bill Sharpless), Ruth Lantry, (son-in-law, Jack Lantry), William Eberhardt, and Susanne Kalinowski.\nWilliam was predeceased by his love, Angela, in September of 2020. William held her close until her final day. Living without her by his side was so very difficult.\nFrom a young age, William decided to dedicate his life, his time, and his career to serving others. William served in the United States Marine Corp Reserve for 41 years. He retired from the Philadelphia Police Department, with a passion in the Crime Scene Investigation unit. Lastly, William volunteered most of his life to the Boy Scouts of American. Without a doubt, William touched the lives of countless young men as he mentored them during their most pivotal years.\nWilliam was a very knowledgeable and perceptive man. He read countless books throughout his lifetime and enjoyed his daily trivia and crossword puzzles in his retirement. William loved to share his wisdom and experiences with others, especially his grandchildren. William is survived by twelve grandchildren, Joseph Spingler, Nicholas Holmes (granddaughter-in-law, Crystalle Holmes), Kelly Holmes, Kristen Sharpless, Angela McFadden (grandson-in-law, Matt McFadden), Anthony “AJ” Eberhardt, Brittney Berkenhager (grandson-in-law, Connor Berkenhager), Stephanie Mitchell (grandson-in-law, Matt Mitchell), Brett Kalinowski (grandson-in-law, Rick Kalinowski), Ashley Lantry, Aubree Lantry, and Tyler Celli. He is also survived by six young great-grandchildren, Riley McFadden, Olive Holmes, Hunter McFadden, Archer Holmes, Maverick Eberhardt, and Everett Mitchell.\nWilliam taught his entire family undeniable lessons of love, service, faith, perseverance, and hard work (and we can’t forget that his love for the Philadelphia Eagles gave birth to a family full of avid ‘Birds’ fans – Fly Eagles Fly!). His door was always open to others, and the memories made inside the walls of his warm home are sure to be cherished. \nWilliam’s memory will live on through his ever-growing family. He will be missed dearly.\nRelatives and friends are invited to his visitation Thursday July 13 th 9:30 AM at Nativity BVM Church 2535 E. Allegheny Ave. Phila., PA 19134. Funeral Mass 11:00 AM.
