Mary Gallagher

Mary Catherine (McBride) Gallagher was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024 at the age of 89.

She was born to Charles and Alice McBride on May 9, 1935 in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Mary was the oldest of 5 siblings; Harry, Francis, Doris, and Jane who all preceded her in death.

She met the love of her life John and they went on to have 3 children; Johnny, Billy, and Jerry. They lived for many years in Kensington on 2041 E Williams St where they created many memories. They were married for 55 years until John’s passing in 2008.

Mary and John were residents of the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia since 1970 and she lived there until her passing. If you lived on Salmon Street, you knew Mary or better known to many as Mrs or Mrs G. Most likely, she babysat your children or helped you in some way. She was always there to listen or talk or simply sit outside on nice nights and chat. Whatever you needed, Mrs G was there.

She was a huge Philadelphia Phillies fan and she never missed a game. You could find her sitting in front of the television yelling at the screen and making up nicknames for the players. She also was a big reader and had a green thumb. She loved the mummers and you could easily find her on a dance floor at a party.

She is predeceased by her husband John, son Billy, grandson Johnnie, and all her siblings. She is survived by her sons Johnny (Gail), & Jerry (Marge), grandchildren; Kaseie (Jack), Richie, Freddie (Alex), Brittany, & Kelly and many friends and relatives.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Saturday September 14th 10:00 AM at the Reilly Rakowski Funeral Home 2632-34 E. Allegheny Ave. Phila., PA 19134. Memorial Service 12 Noon. Interment Private.
