JOSEPH DURKIN

Passed peacefully surrounded by love on July 28, 2023. A life long resident of Somerton in Northeast Philadelphia, Joe was legendary for his humor and quick wit. Joe was a family man who loved any gathering of his crazy clan. And he frequently initiated the gatherings. He was a generous host to family and friends. Joe was the center of any celebration, and sparked the fun in festivities of any kind. He loved live music, and was always ready to dance. He could be found walking the “boards” in Ocean City every summer where he happily drove over the bridge to feast on crab dinners in Somers Point. His was a caring and compassionate spirit. He would quietly and without fanfare watch out for both family and friends. He brought a hands-on knowledge and unique camaraderie to his successful sales career in the Paint Industry. His positivity vibrated wherever he was, and lifted the spirits of all. Joe was a devoted parishioner of St. Christopher’s Church.

Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years Terri Durkin (nee Martin). Loving Dad to Cristin Durkin and Rachael Durkin. Brother of John Durkin and Ed Atkinson (Claire). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Saturday August 5th 9:15 AM at St. Christopher Church 13301 Proctor Rd. Phila., PA 19116.
