King of Prussia, Pennsylvania
Frances Ann McDaid, 87, of Rosemont, PA, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. We still can’t imagine a life without her.
Frances was born on November 25, 1936, to Francis and Catherine (nee Maloney) Ludden in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. After the family settled in Rosemont, Frances met the love of her life Patrick McDaid while both attended grade school at St. Thomas of Villanova.
Patrick spotted Frances consoling and helping a small child who had spilt her milk. That simple act of compassion was both the start of a great love affair and a perfect example of the spirit of kindness and generosity which would mark Frances’s entire life. (Patrick never had a chance, they’ve been together ever since.)
Married in 1960 at the Church at Villanova University, Frances and Patrick went on to have three children, Patricia (Sara Gavit); Christopher (Jennifer Davis) and Jonathan (Maura Nolan). Frances became the beloved “Fibee” to her grandchildren: Katharine; Fiona; Maeve; Eamonn; Rachel; and Erin; and great-grandmother to Quinn, Tula, Harper, Augie, Ruby, and Wolfie.
She taught us all to be kind, selfless, dependable, strong, and that education comes at any age. She taught us how to love and be loved at a whole new level and she was Fibee all the way through.
Frances was a skilled legal secretary who worked into her 80s. She received an associate degree from Delaware County Community later in life, loved the beach, enjoyed exercise, attended the theater, and always cheered for the Eagles. She also enjoyed chatting with her beloved sister Marian, listening to the High Kings and the Barenaked Ladies, and traveled everywhere from Alaska to Rome to Istanbul with traveling companion (and partner in crime) Patricia.
Frances was a long-time volunteer at Mansion at Rosemont retirement community and an usher at St. Thomas chapel.
But Fibee’s true and ultimate love was family, especially taking care of her grandkids and great-grandkids--whether that was going to the pool, giving band-aids, or making the best toasted cheese that no one can recreate.
Frances was predeceased by Francis and Catherine Ludden. She is survived by her sister Marian Scolis along with Patrick (known as “Tog” to all), the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
On Friday, June 21, 2024, friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 9am to 10am, followed by a funeral mass at 10am at St. Thomas of Villanova Church at Villanova University (800 E. Lancaster Ave, Villanova PA 19085).
In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Royer Greaves School for the Blind.
