Ellagine Cristina Leigh

–

Mount Laurel Township, New Jersey

We announce the passing of Ellagine "Gene" Leigh, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all whose lives she touched.
On May 30, 2025, our beloved mother lost her battle to (ILD) interstitial lung disease/ pulmonary fibrosis at Temple University Hospital.
Born in Limon, Costa Rica to Eustance Clark (father) and Mary Campbell (mother).
Gene witnessed incredible challenges after losing both her parents at an early age. However, their absence was filled by her grandmother and a large number of uncles, aunts, siblings, and cousins that helped raise her.
Gene was adventurous during her childhood where she worked and enjoyed playing with animals on her grandmother's farm.
Mom (Gene) immigrated to the USA and lived in Brooklyn, NY. Where she met William (husband) and lifelong partner of 51 years. They eventually settled in Bridgeport, CT.
Gene worked in an industrial factory and professional housekeeper for many years to support her family. She was also a Jehovah's Witness for over four decades and volunteered in community service, helping her family and neighbors learn about Christ's Kingdom.
Mom (Gene) was the beloved mother of Anthony and Lucretia (wife) and Marion and the proud grandmother to Christopher (Chris), Khalil, Darion, and Kayla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, eldest daughter, Denise, and sister, Daly.
Gene lived a full life as a wonderful mother, loving and patient wife, and devoted Christian.
Gene enjoyed laughing, knitting, and talking to friends. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled family devotion by her words and example.
Mom (Gene) will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Memorial Service will be held on June 21st, 2025
