Dr. Elaine DeRosa
July 9, 1943 – June 22, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Elaine DeRosa, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend.
Elaine was born in Philadelphia to Stephen Melnick and Victoria Melnick (Horochiwsky). She is survived by her beloved and devoted daughters Caran Masington (the late Gary), Jane Sobieski (Asa Aarons), Joan DeRosa, Elaine Flood (Kevin) and the late Susan DeRosa, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many loving family members and dear friends.
Above all, Elaine was a woman of deep and abiding faith. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her decisions, shaping her character, and inspiring her unwavering love for others. She lived her beliefs through acts of kindness, generosity, service, and compassion, always offering encouragement and support to family, friends, and those in need.
Family was the center of Elaine’s world. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren unconditionally, celebrating their successes, supporting them through challenges, and instilling in them the values of faith, perseverance, and love. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and welcome, where family and friends gathered and lifelong memories were made.
A lifelong learner with an insatiable curiosity, Elaine believed education was a journey without end. Her dedication to learning led her to earn a doctorate degree, reflecting both her intellect and determination. She inspired others to keep growing, questioning, and pursuing knowledge throughout their lives. Elaine is a graduate of Saint Basil Academy, Arcadia University’s Masters program, and received both her BA and doctoral degrees from Temple University.
Elaine embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved the beach, found happiness in preparing meals for family and friends, and treasured opportunities to connect with others. Gifted athletically, she excelled in basketball, softball, and tennis, bringing the same competitive spirit and determination to every aspect of her life.
Elaine embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved swimming, gardening, reading, writing, dancing, expressing herself creatively through crafting and decorating. A natural social butterfly, she never turned down an invitation to a party and cherished every opportunity to gather with family and friends.
A true trailblazer, Elaine refused to let the limitations often placed on women of her generation define her path. Through hard work, courage, and confidence, she pursued her ambitions and showed her daughters that nothing is out of reach if they believe in themselves and persevere.
Elaine’s legacy of faith, resilience, intellectual curiosity, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
