Warminster, Pennsylvania

Allen Raymond Wenker

Born October 14, 1930 in Philadelphia, he grew up on one of the last farms within the city limits in the Bustleton section of Philadelphia where the Wenker family had several farms since the mid 1800’s. He attended the Bustleton Methodist Church growing up. He graduated from Frankford High School in 1948. He then attended his beloved Williamson Trade School where he majored in carpentry, sang in the chorus and appreciated the spiritual and character building atmosphere. He married Muriel Ward in 1952 and entered the army where he was stationed in Washington DC as an MP during the Korean conflict. When he returned to Philadelphia, he built his home in Somerton where they lived for almost 50 years. He was a member of the Somerton Methodist Church most of his years, but joined the Bethesda Presbyterian Church later in life. He started working for the Philadelphia School District in the drafting division, making the plans for the building of the many schools built in the 1960’s. He moved to the controllers office and became a construction inspector as the schools were built or older schools repaired. He spent many years in the Harry A Houseman Lodge No 717 of the Free and Accepted Masons where he rose to the rank of Past Master. He retired from the School District after 38 years of service. He and his wife moved to Anns Choice Retirement Community in Warminster and enjoyed that community until their passing. Allen was a man of faith, loved the Lord and lived out his faith every day in his decisions. He loved gardening, travel, games with friends and family, but especially spending time sharing meals with his family. He was faithful in connecting weekly by phone with all his family no matter where they were.

He is survived by three children, David (Janet) , Barbara Simpson (Richard) and Daniel (Mary). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Micah (Rachel), Andrew (Samantha), Caroline (Anthony), Daniel (Darby), Melissa (John), and Ryan. He has five great-grandchildren; Noah, Nathaniel, Joshua, Ethan and Christopher. Allen is predeceased by his wife Muriel and his sister Esther Borig. He is also survived by his dear friend Virginia Thomas.

A public celebration of Allen’s life will be held in the Ann’s Choice Retirement Community Chapel in Warminster, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 6 at 1 pm.
