In Loving Memory of Alice Regina Martin (née McHugh)
January 22, 1936 – July 9, 2025
With deep love and cherished memories, the family of Alice Regina Martin announces her peaceful passing on July 9, 2025, at the age of 89, at her home in Longport, New Jersey surrounded by family and friends.
Born on January 22, 1936, in Philadelphia, Alice was a beloved daughter of the late Joseph B. and Madeline F. McHugh (née Walker). A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, she spent every summer with family and friends at her home in Longport, New Jersey—a place that brought her great peace and happy memories.
Alice was a proud graduate of Saint Boniface Business School. While raising her four children, she volunteered at school functions and political campaigns. She also led a full and industrious life, working as both a dedicated secretary and as a trusted realtor.
Alice was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William G. Martin, and her beloved daughter, Maryalyce. She was a loving and proud mother to Bernard, Suzanne (Scott), and William (Kristin), and the adoring grandmother of Jessica, Joseph, William, Katherine, Zoe, Nicholas, Julia, and David—each of whom she treasured deeply and inspired with her strength and steadfast love.
Alice was one of five siblings and held deep bonds with her sisters Catherine and Eileen and remembered fondly her late siblings Bernice and Joseph. She also embraced her role as a cherished aunt, offering kindness and guidance to her extended family throughout the years.
Those who knew Alice will remember her quick wit, generous spirit, and easy, contagious laughter. She had a lifelong love for knitting, often gifting handmade pieces filled with love and care. Whether through a warm sweater or a soft baby blanket, Alice wove her affection into every stitch.
Her legacy is one of resilience, kindness, humor, and grace. She will be missed deeply and remembered always.
A celebration of Alice’s life will be held on July 16, 2025 at Holy Trinity - Epiphany Church in Longport NJ starting at 10:00 Am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation in honor of Maryalyce. https://www.sandyovarian.org/donate
